Rotherham United head coach Alex Bruce is still waiting for his first win after a 1-1 draw with York City on 15 September 2024. Bruce took over in the summer as the Millers sought to regroup following relegation from League One.
The Millers opened the scoring in the 20th minute when a low corner from Kian Spence was flicked in by Ewan Otoo. York equalised 20 minutes later when Alex Newby slipped past the back post to tap home a cross from Harry Boyes.
York had a chance to go ahead before the break when Ollie Pearce’s goal-bound effort was diverted just off target by Lenny Agbaire after Newby had been denied. Newby had another opportunity in the second half when Ted Cann’s low shot was equalised.
Rotherham looked most likely to snatch all three points in the closing stages, but York goalkeeper Alfie McNally saved a potential goal when Tom Bradshaw was slid through and looked like scoring. The rebound fell to Spence, who then lanced into the side netting.
The result leaves Bruce still win-less in his tenure, with the Millers looking to turn the draw into a victory in their next fixtures.
