Dominic Iorfa has chosen to stay in South Yorkshire, signing a short-term deal with Rotherham United until January after rejecting a move to League One. The 31-year-old centre-half, who had been a free agent since the summer, turned down Bromley to prioritise family time and a local training base at Roundwood.
Head coach Alex Bruce, assisted by Steve Agnew who knew Iorfa from their time together at Sheffield Wednesday, completed the signing this week. Iorfa had been training with the Millers to regain fitness after working with a personal trainer, and the opportunity to join the squad became clear as the transfer window neared its end.
Family was the decisive factor. Living in Wickersley with his partner and three young children, the defender did not want to uproot his life for a club hours away.
"When I was weighing up my options, I was thinking: 'Do I really want to go somewhere about two, three hours away?'" Iorfa said. "I love playing football, and I love my family experiencing the highs that I have as well."
He described how matchdays have become a cherished routine for his household.
"Saturdays have become a big part of our lives," he added. "It's like a routine. It's a family day out. Everyone looks forward to matchdays."
Iorfa brings experience and defensive depth to a Rotherham side sitting 16th in League Two with six points from six games. Their recent form shows one win, three draws and one loss from the last five, a sequence that includes a dramatic 3-3 draw with Salford City last weekend. The team has scored nine goals but conceded ten so far this season.
His arrival bolsters options for Bruce as the Millers prepare for their next fixture, a home game against Port Vale on 9 January.
