What happened?

Tom Lees' summer trial with Rotherham United has been hampered by an injury, head coach Alex Bruce has revealed. The veteran defender linked up with the League Two Millers around a fortnight ago after rejecting the chance to stay in the division above with Peterborough United.

Why it matters for Rotherham

The Millers must wait before making a decision on Lees, who has yet to even train with the squad.

What comes next?

Rotherham may allow the player to extend his trial beyond the end of pre-season and give him the chance to earn a contract with his impact in training at the club's Roundwood complex.

Lees could be a good fit for the Millers, with his experience and leadership strengthening the backline options.

The head coach hasn't ruled out the former Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town defender playing some part in the final friendly, against Derby County at AESSEAL New York Stadium next Tuesday.
